Behind The Festival
Insomniac, the company founded and led by Pasquale Rotella, will be bringing Beyond Wonderland to Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island at the beginning of June. For those of you not aware, Insomniac is the team that puts on EDC Las Vegas, arguably one of the largest and most well known music festivals in the country. Since their inception, Insomniac has created an array of different festivals and concerts all across North America, bringing their largest festival, EDC, to Mexico and Orlando. They’ve been in the industry for more than 20 years bringing premier events across America. I think it’s safe to say they know how to throw a party. Eventually, there came a time when they weren’t able to throw events in person, which is when they came onto my radar.
As we all know, the coronavirus pandemic forged a new chapter in our lives. It created a new range of challenges for all of us. During this time, live music, concerts and music festivals were hard to come by due to cancellations and the fear that it would be a “super spreader” event. It removed an outlet for us to escape from our everyday lives. Live music is so powerful because it allows us to get away from reality and enjoy the moment. It takes our minds away from stress we may have from work, from chores we have to get done and whatever anxious thoughts we might be experiencing that week.
Rotella and Insomniac identified this, and during a time of silence in the music world, they found a way to bring people together from all over the world. While the United States and plenty of other countries were on lockdown, Insomniac decided to introduce “Virtual Rave-A-Thon”, a series of streamed live sets by artists and brief interviews. It not only allowed us as fans to connect again over music, but also allowed the artists themselves to debut new songs they’ve been working on. For Insomniac to embrace such a challenging time for everyone and make light of a negative situation was very impressive. To me, it showed their commitment to their fans and the community. Fast forward to today, they’ll be debuting Beyond Wonderland among a list of other noteworthy EDM festivals such as North Coast, Spring Awakening and ARC.
